Summer Academy for Adult Teaching and Learning (SAALT)

classroom of adult learnersSAALT is a 4-day immersive faculty development conference to be held at the University of Southern Maine’s Abromson Center. Sponsored by Rosa Redonnett’s Adult Degree Completion committee, this event is designed to build a UMS community of forward-thinking and innovative faculty focused on developing and implementing teaching and learning best practices for all students and the adult learner in particular.

SAALT will be held from Monday, July 31st through Thursday, August 3rd at USM’s Portland campus. Our proposed learning outcomes are:

  1. Learn preferences and strengths for teaching and learning of the adult nontraditional learner
  2. Develop competency in analyzing the effectiveness of current classroom teaching techniques, methods, procedures and processes
  3. Learn frameworks for engaging and improving learning outcomes for the nontraditional student

Three faculty are selected by the Chief Academic Officer from each campus to participate.
